John M. Ciccone, MD, FACC

Dr. John Ciccone, a founding member of Consultants In Cardiology, is one of the most highly respected physicians in the medical community in Northern New Jersey. In fact, he has been chosen by New Jersey Magazine as one of the Garden State’s “Top Docs” several times. He last received this acclaimed designation in 2007, which underscores Dr. Ciccone’s commitment to maintaining only the highest standards.
Dr. Ciccone grew up in Lyndhurst, NJ. The grandson of Italian immigrants, he aspired to be the best he could be. He was in the National Honors Society in high school, but he was also able to star on the varsity football team. He attended college at Seton Hall University, majoring in biology/pre-med, and he received the Stanley Bergen Award for excellence in academia. He went on to receive his M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at UMDNJ, where he received the “Intern of the Year” award. Dr. Ciccone served as chief resident his last year at UMDNJ, and published numerous research articles during his training. He was a fellow in cardiology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and was the first physician to train in Interventional Cardiology (coronary angioplasty) in the state. He joined Consultants In Cardiology in 1985, and has been an inspiration to all who have worked with him since then.
Dr. Ciccone’s credentials are too numerous to mention. He is board-certified in Cardiovascular Medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMDNJ. He currently practices Interventional Cardiology at St. Barnabas, and will be serving a two-year appointment as director of St. Barnabas’s cardiac catheterization laboratory beginning in 2008. He has been at the forefront of preventive cardiology, and founded CIC’s Whole Heart Institute. Dr. Ciccone was one of the first to recognize that preventing heart disease is just as important as treating it. He has demonstrated that treating the patient as a whole person, with his caring bedside manner, superior cardiac skills, and the combined efforts of his team of nurse practitioners and our certified holistic nurse, has clear, demonstrable benefits on patient outcome.
Aside from his dedication to his medical practice, he is a dedicated dad. His wife Jennifer and daughter Madison are expecting a new addition to the family in January. He is also an avid golfer and enjoys hiking with his family.
